Hyndberry Recipe - Black pudding with beetroot and apple
November 09 2009 14:55:54
Here’s a recipe for one of our most under-rated autumn vegetables – beetroot. Don't let pickled beetroot put you off - this is totally different. Fresh raw beetroot is widely available now, at farmers markets and even in the supermarkets - and it's delicious. There are lots of ways to cook it, this is just one -combined with the ultimate black pudding (Stornoway) and caramelised apples. It makes a divine starter - or double the portion size and add a few sauteed potatoes on the side for a great main course . It may not be the healthiest dish on earth but it is definitely one of the tastiest!!

The LBA and the Postal Strike.
November 09 2009 14:34:17
|
The response to our survey of Linlithgow businesses suggests that the postal strike has had little direct impact on business to date. No business took the opportunity to say that disruption to deliveries had had any direct impact on their activities to date and one commented to the effect that deliveries are so unreliable anyway they were not likely to notice any difference.

This was followed by was a brief Q & A session about the wider implications for transport links and business prospects throughout the central belt.

Linlithgow Aspires Success
November 09 2009 14:30:45
Well, the LBA’s efforts appear to be paying off. Having played the catalyst role to ensure Aspire gets off to the best possible start the wider community is now rising to the opportunities ahead. A number of emerging leaders have come forward and are working with their teams to progress a variety of workstreams required to take the project to the next stages. These include Vision and Community Engagement, Strategies & Big Ideas, PR., Communications & Web, Baseline data and Community Groups. These teams have their own autonomy and some already have proposed action plans through to April 2010.

Reflections of the New Members' evening from a new Member.
November 09 2009 14:27:10
I attended the above last week, not really sure what to expect. I'd recently also attended the AGM, which was enthusiastic & lively, so I was hoping for at least another dose of the same. My view on the evening was that it produced all that & more. I liked the enthusiasm & energy from most, and the willingness to want to do something for the greater good of the Community, which will of course, help all our businesses in varying ways, if we deliver on that. I also liked the suggestions that were put forward on how to up our profile & image, how to best stay connected & strengthen that, how to help & promote each other's businesses, and how to help bring others more into the Community, eg schoolchildren.
Now that I and my fellow new members are no longer new Members, what now?

Ocean 70

It never ceases to amaze me how small the world is.
A couple of months ago we were approached by the United Nations in Brussels to help them on the design side with a web project they were having difficulty with, the project name was www.coolplanet2009.org. The UN, I thought, fantastic, what a great client to have on our credentials and certainly something to shout about. We completed the work on time and within the tight budget we were given and the client was more than happy with the results.

Beecraigs Eco-visitor Centre
November 09 2009 14:24:17
|
Plans are progressing for a state of the art eco-centre at Beecraigs Country Park.
The new centre, designed by LBA members EKJN architects, is to be built on vacant land currently used for growing fodder for the deer herd. It will include a new entrance to the country park and a new entrance to the popular caravan park. The new centre will replace the existing park office which is tucked away out of sight amongst the deer farm's buildings. It is hoped that the old building will eventually become a holiday lodge.

Hyndberry Recipe - Apple and raisin chutney
October 12 2009 15:45:31
|
A great way to use up a glut of apples is to turn them into chutney. This makes them last all year! And a jar of homemade chutney is a lovely present to receive. You can also use pears in this recipe.
2 kg apples or pears, peeled, cored and chopped
500ml white wine or cider vinegar 180g raisins 750g soft brown sugar 2 tsp ground ginger half teaspoon mixed spice 1 tsp salt
Put everything in a large pan and cook slowly until it is thick. Stir frequently to stop it sticking to the bottom of the pan. And keep a window open – boiling vinegar brings tears to your eyes! When it’s ready put it into jam jars that have been sterilised with boiling water or in a low oven. Chutney improves with age but I’ve never had any problem eating it when it’s very young! Lovely on an oatcake (or a chunk of homemade bread) with cheese and/or ham.

Linlithgow Aspires
October 12 2009 15:00:42
Following a long period of gestation, Linlithgow Aspires has now emerged and been put before the community-at-large at a series of open events over the past three weeks. Judging by the initial enthusiastic response from a wide range of participants, Aspires is set to take on a central role in Linlithgow’s evolution.
The founding principle is, ultimately, to have active, voluntary involvement of every section of the Linlithgow community from the youngest to the oldest, across all sectors, public and private and all shades and grades of political opinion. The initial show of enthusiastic commitment and offers of active involvement in specific areas arising from this series of meetings augers well for the future. Several key workstreams have been identified and individuals and groups have taken responsibility for their progress.
